Should I consider a weekday wedding?

It’s no secret that most couples opt to have their wedding on a weekend but we believe having your wedding on a weekday is greatly underrated. Yes, there can be complications when it comes to the guest list but there are many other benefits that could entice you to seriously consider a weekday wedding.

Budget

The most obvious reason for having a weekday wedding is that it can save you lots of money. With lower demand, venues and suppliers are likely to lower their prices for a weekday celebration. Then it’s up to you what to do with the extra room in the budget… you could enjoy the saving, get something extra special for your day like a dessert table or amazing wedding favours, or upgrade your honeymoon suite.

Your ideal suppliers

Again, as there is less demand on weekdays you will likely have more choice in suppliers and venues. Having a weekday wedding will make it easier to find the right wedding suppliers for you from photographer to caterers and everything in between, it is also more likely that you will have exclusive use of your venue. Your special date

Being open to a weekday wedding means you can set your wedding date on a meaningful date to you - this could be the anniversary of the proposal or when you first met.

But what about guests?

Thinking about guests is always the number one reason for not considering a weekday wedding as some guests may not be able to book the day off work. This may not be an issue for certain industries like those who work in tourism who will find getting a weekday off easier, and some guests might enjoy the time off and make more of a mini-break out of it. So it isn’t all doom and gloom!

A weekday wedding could also be the perfect excuse to keep the guest list small if you’re looking for a more intimate affair - remember it is your day. The best tip we can give is to make sure you discuss the idea of a weekday celebration with your most important guests and see if they would be able to get it off work. Also, make sure to give everyone plenty of notice with the invitations.

Extended Celebrations

Having your wedding ceremony on a weekday is the perfect excuse to extend your celebrations across the week! You could have a beautiful, small ceremony with the people special to you and then have a bigger reception-style celebration or bbq on the following weekend to be able to celebrate with those who couldn’t make the weekday.

Planning your weekday wedding

We’ve put together a quick consideration list to make sure you will have an amazing day if you’re planning your wedding for a weekday:

  • Make sure to give both your guests and suppliers plenty of notice

  • Consider how you will adjust your budget

  • Consider a ceremony later in the day so people may be able to make it after work or take a half-day.
